Biennales refer to important art exhibitions held every two years,

and are currently held in many countries around the world.

One of the unique features of the Vancouver Biennale

2014-2016 is that it does not display artworks in a closed environment,

but turns the city into an open-air museum,

allowing art works of great artists from all over the world to be integrated into people’s daily life,

In the environment of work, study and entertainment,

people's thinking, communication and integration are aroused.

A "W"-shaped sculpture composed of four 40-foot container

boxes will be settled in New Westminster Pier Park today,

becoming the city's third 2014-2016 Vancouver Biennale (Vancouver Biennale) work .

This sculpture called WOW New Westminster was created by the Brazilian artist Jose Resende.

The City of New Westminster hopes that the work can arouse everyone's

discussion on the city's historic shipping, industrial and transportation hub status.

Barry Mowatt, the founder of the Vancouver Biennale,

said that the sculpture will be 40 feet high and 140 feet long.

It will be placed on the water's edge of the New Westminster Pier Park,

blending with space and bridges. The container boxes

will be connected by steel cables to maintain balance.

The container boxes will be transported by ships through the Fraser River to the dock park,

and then 34,000 pounds of components will be placed on land by cranes.

The works exhibited this time not only reflect the

economic activities and freight status of New Westminster,

but also show that the city’s wharf has evolved from

a transportation hub to a leisure place for citizens.
