Generally speaking, the best learning method is to apply theory to practice. In order to make this statement, the Research Institute of a school in Thailand has turned their research topic into reality. It has piled up a research institute specially for them with 22 containers to teach students "what is environmental protection".
The Institute teaches students about the importance of upgrading recycling and sustainable development, tree protection, urban agriculture and waste management. In order to improve the quality of students' learning, their institute makes every effort to minimize the impact on the environment throughout the construction process. Starting with a large number of trees, the final design reduces the impact on trees by using skilled crane operators to move transport containers around the existing landscape.
Once the containers are in their intended locations, builders begin to cut some of the large metal boxes to build windows, doors, decks, and access to open platforms. The school has classrooms, meeting rooms, kitchens and plenty of outdoor space. During the construction, they also carefully checked the amount of concrete needed and adopted ventilation design to avoid greenhouse gas emissions.
In order to further the sustainable design, the cut metal is not wasted, but turned into interior walls, doors, sinks, bathroom compartments and kiosks in cafes and gyms. The whole campus uses low-energy LED lighting for indoor areas without a lot of natural lighting.
