The wooden house building is healthy and comfortable,
but the firmness is not strong; the iron box building is firm and durable,
but the comfort is not good.
So how do you design a building that is both comfortable and durable?
This container house in La Campania, Chile, cleverly combines "wood"
and "iron" to create "a wooden house that will never collapse."
Constructed by the architects Constanza DomÍnguez C. and Plannea Arquitectura,
this is an open-plan house covering an area of 95 square meters,
pursuing flexibility of space and close connection with nature,
in order to recycle, fast, low cost and materials Optimization is
the advantage to achieve the smallest impact on the environment.
The design of the open house container not only has a private interior space,
but also a multi-functional open space.
The parallel arrangement of the two containers in the project is 6 meters apart,
creating an intermediate space,
which is fully covered by a higher metal structure,
so that the living room, dining room and studio can be freely expanded in this space.
The two container structures next to it are a
re-used 40´STD shipping container (internal height 2.40 m)
and another 40'HC marine container (internal height 2.70 m).
Both containers are almost completely wrapped by wood. The design,
leaving only the doors and windows empty,
provides a solid and comfortable indoor living environment,
mainly used as more private spaces such as bedrooms and bathrooms.
Not only is the exterior fully wrapped,
but the interior of the container is also covered with wood,
which adds a lot of warmth and harmony and breaks the original hardness of metal.
The empty space at the end of the container creates a ventilated
and light-permeable condition for the indoor environment at this time,
making the scenery in the bedroom more open.
All the elements of the interior have returned to wood, whether it is the door and wall,
or the bed and wall cabinet, they all appear harmonious and unified.
You will never feel that you are in a rigid container.
The almost full-covered wooden planks will make you immersed in the comfort of a wooden house,
and the sunlight coming in through the glass windows will make it more warm.
