When we were students, we always realized

how cost-effective the canteen is and how cheap the dormitory is...

Until we stepped into society,

we didn't know that firewood, rice, oil and salt were money.

To create affordable housing dormitories for students,

a dock building in CPH Village in Copenhagen, Denmark,

combines adaptive reuse with "demolition design" to drive more sustainable urbanisation.

The student accommodation is located in Refshaleøen,

the former shipyard in Copenhagen, an area characterized by

the contrast between industrial heritage and modern city.

Due to the limitation of local low-density areas,

the construction of student dormitories does not exceed two floors.

The aim is to create a building in which man and nature live in harmony,

allowing residents to be closely connected to their surroundings.

According to the principles of disassembly design,

the dormitory packs repurposed containers into the house,

a method that makes the building easy to take apart, move and reassemble.

All building materials can be reused or recycled even after local use ends.

Therefore, you will find that the height of

the dormitory is higher than the general container.

The aesthetics are pristine,

the walls are all cut from recycled shipping containers,

and all the seams are made of visible screws.

It can be seen from the structural split diagram

that a dormitory is composed of 4 containers with a height of 2.9m,

which are respectively used as 4 single accommodation spaces.

Built into 40-foot shipping containers,

each housing unit contains a shared entrance and bathroom,

as well as two private rooms, each with a large window and kitchenette.

Beds are generally placed by windows with scenic views,

and if you like the freedom of a hammock,

you can hang one directly above the bed.

Whether it's the linen on the bed,

an old wooden chair or a brightly colored wardrobe,

metal walls make it possible to create a personalized space,

as all personal items can be hung with magnets or fixed to the wall with planks,

and you can even You can paste your favorite murals.

The secret of this student dormitory's "cheap and high quality" is

that by sharing spaces and amenities,

private spaces can be reduced to compact houses with basic functions,

while maintaining good indoor ventilation and light.

The spaces between the dormitories are covered by roofs, creating semi-private areas

that can be used as outdoor living rooms.

Here, students can hold a variety of concerts, lectures and parties.
