Wuhu is a major inland river port in the country and a national first-class open port. It is the only port-type national logistics hub in Anhui Province. In order to thoroughly implement the requirements of the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government for the high-quality development of water transport, Wuhu City has formulated the "Wuhu Port High-Quality Development Action Plan" with the goal of exceeding the container throughput of 3 million TEUs.

On the morning of December 27, the Wuhu Municipal Transportation Bureau held a press conference to introduce the high-quality development of the "Port City" and the construction of a "one main and two auxiliary" container transportation system. Dawan News reporters learned from the press conference that it is expected that the container throughput of Wuhu Port will exceed 2.2 million and 3 million TEUs by 2027 and 2030 respectively.
The "Action Plan" focuses on accelerating the creation of a "one main and two auxiliary" container transportation system with Zhujiaqiao Port Area as the main area and Sanshan Port Area and Yuxikou Port Area as supplements. It mainly includes "coordinating port city planning, strengthening infrastructure construction, and enlarging routes." It focuses on the four aspects of "Interconnection and Improving Service Functions". At the same time, it has refined 47 task lists and specific project lists, and clarified the leading cooperating units and plan completion time limits one by one. Related planning and construction are being advanced in an orderly manner.
It is understood that Wuhu Port is the only port-type national logistics hub in Anhui Province, a multimodal shipping center in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, a river-sea intermodal transport hub, and the province's main container hub port. After years of development, Wuhu Port’s status as a container hub port has been continuously consolidated. In 2022, the container volume will reach 1.25 million TEUs, ranking sixth in the country, fourth in the Yangtze River Delta, and first in Anhui Province; from January to November 2023, Wuhu Port’s container volume The volume reached 1.3021 million TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 13.12%, which is nearly three times the national average growth rate. Since 2018, Wuhu Port has continuously promoted the construction of port integration with Shanghai Port. Currently, it operates a total of 30 container routes, including 27 domestic trade routes and 3 foreign trade routes, with scheduled sailings to scheduled ports, routes, schedules, and shipments every week. There are 37 "five scheduled liners" with scheduled ships, which can reach ports in various countries and regions around the world through Shanghai. The normal operation time of ships from Wuhu to Shanghai has been shortened from the original 5 days to less than 2 days. The average ship time in port is 11.7 hours, which improves turnover efficiency and reduces operating costs.
Wuhu City has a total length of 193.9 kilometers of Yangtze River coastline, including 52.66 kilometers of planned Yangtze River port coastline, including 7 riverside port areas. Promote the construction of a "one main and two auxiliary" container transportation system, which is based on Zhujiaqiao Port Area, Sanshan Port Area and Yuxi Port Area as auxiliary. By accelerating the construction of port infrastructure, we will improve the collection and distribution system of the port area and increase the coverage of the route network. , enhance the container logistics support capabilities of the economic hinterland, promote the accelerated agglomeration of shipping elements, higher-quality integration of ports, industries, and cities, and form a development pattern of three-port linkage, north-south interconnection, and resource sharing. By 2030, the container throughput of Wuhu Port will exceed 3 million TEUs.
